The apple is only harvested when it’s perfect, because only with the renowed blushing red peel and ideal maturing is a Kanzi® apple ready to seduce you. The story behind the fantastic great taste
PLANTING THE TREES
The story starts with carefully selected ingredients: the cross of Gala and Braeburn, the perfect soil, the optimum growing climate and – above all- a grower who exceeds in passion for his orchard. The grower has to wait up to 2 years before the first apples can be harvested. It takes 6 years before a tree is in full productivity. The trees are planted and pruned in such way, so that all trees catch optimum sun light and nutrition from the soil.
IN SNOOZEPOSITION (WINTER)
In wintertime the trees are ‘at rest’ after a long and intense period of productivity. It seems as if nothing happens at the orchard, but look closely and you will see… The grower is preparing his trees with the utmost care for the upcoming season: he cuts the trees to give them the right shape and vitality to reach optimum production in the next year. Each tree needs separate attention, a job that takes the grower from November to March.
WAKE_UP CALL! (SPRING)
The days lengthen, temperature rises: the trees awake from their winter sleep! During the blossoming in spring, the apple trees put on their best outfit, looking gorgeous with thousands of flowers. In close co-operation with bee-keepers, beehives are placed in the orchards. The busy bees help the pollination of the flowers; marking the start of the growing process. Only the best flowers are selected, for becoming the best Kanzi® apples with the most delicious taste.
GETTING A TEINT (SUMMER)
The apples are on the trees, still little, but you can see them growing week by week. The grower takes care of his orchard with love, cutting away deformed fruit and making sure all apples can receive the necessary nutrition from the stem of the tree.
The sunlight is giving the Kanzi® apples their characteristic beautiful red colour and their magnificent taste. The grower makes sure the apple gets just the right amount of sunlight, and thus the specific red colour Kanzi® is well-known for, without getting sunburned.
LEARNING TO SWIM (AUTUMN)
After 152 days on average, the time is right to harvest the Kanzi® apple. The grower only harvests the apple when all criteria are met: the fruit is matured perfectly, has the proper sugar content, the flesh is optimally firm and the colour is intensely red.
The apples are picked by hand and packaged with the greatest care and make their way to the store house where they are transported by water to protect the perfect skin of the apple.
After careful packaging and storage, the Kanzi® apples are ready
to follow their way to the local consumer, who is assured of the best apple possible!
